Seeking Employment

2009/11/25

I am in school right now but need to bring in some extra income. I know it is tough out there for everyone, but I gotta make some money. Wether it be by clicking a mouse and designing something or by taking out the trash, it doesn’t really matter. If you have any leads, tips or offers leave me a comment.

I grew up playing and watching baseball as a kid (GO A’S!) and go to games when I can. Not only as a mexican-american but as a latin-american It was nice to see players like Sammy Sosa and Alex Rodriguez become superstars and make an impact on the history of baseball, until it came out that they were cheating. In my mind and in pro sports culture, you can do a lot of bad things in your pro and personal life that are not nearly as bad as doing steroids. I miss baseball when It looked and felt real, guys didn’t have massive necks and arms, guys played hurt and were tough as nails. Where are the Roberto Clemente’s, Hank Aaron’s or Willie Mays’? I know they are all one-of-a kind players but what they all had in common was honesty in their successes and failures.

Now Sammy Sosa is not only a disappointment athletically for the latin-american community but culturally he is sending an incredibly damaging message with his skin-whitening. We as Latinos are beautiful and worthy no matter our skin color, light dark and everything in between. VIVA LA RAZA LATINA!

Dieter Rams

2009/11/18

I saw an article about the Dieter Rams exhibit over on Hypebeast with some great photography. The design Museum in London is doing an exhibition of his work, and an incredible collection of design at that. I recently was able to watch the movie Objectified and in all honesty It gave me mixed emotions about product design. I guess It confirmed the conflict I have about the profession and supported some of my reasons for straying away from it. In the movie Dieter Rams talks about design and his words and work are some of why I do love Industrial design and maybe why I want to go back and work on some ideas I have.

Leica

2009/11/16

I am looking to take a photography class and update my camera situation in the next few months. Photography is such an integral part of design in general but for obvious ones a huge part of graphic communication and while I understand composition and tone etc. having knowledge of the proper way to work with photos would be great. It is only a dream for now but the Leica camera is a masterpiece of design and engineering that I would love to own. I hear they are pretty incredible. This white M8 is very pretty, some of the  other special editions like the safari and the new hermes (pictured last) editions are pretty nice too but this white one is crispy.

House Industries

2009/11/13

I have finally started my final book on Art & Design programs in the public school system and my inspiration has found its way back in time. Aesthetically it has taken on a vintage education look, using a lot of illustration and 50’s, 60’s shapes on the page. Existing inspiration that always has me in awe are the great people at House Industries. They have created some amazing typefaces that truly represent classic lettering of that era. Hopefully my book will do justice to some of that great era of design as well as do justice to a very important topic of conversation.

Damien Hirst

2009/11/02

I had seen all the press about the trek bikes used by Lance Armstrong during his tour de france comeback which were designed by famous artists like KAWS, Shepard Fairey and of course Damien Hirst. I also just heard that they went up for auction bringing in over 1 million dollars for the livestrong foundation with Hirst’s butterfly bike bringing in the most money at $500,000.00. In seeing the price I was astounded, I know his fame and controversy naturally are going to balloon the price of his bike obscenely but I didn’t know that the butterfly bike was made with REAL butterflies.

Calavera comics

2009/10/29

I am a big fan of lucha libre, not only being mexican but being an artist super heros and comics were my life as a kid and I still draw inspiration from them today. I recently saw this great poster by Calavera Comics which has brought two of my favorite things together in a very thoughtful intensely unique way. I am a big fan of their work and might have to get one of those skate decks even though I’m not a skater by any means. Plus I love the tag line, “Comics with Cojones” AWESOME!
